Walking Among Legends: The Ultimate Yankees History Tour
Walking Among Legends: The Ultimate Yankees History Tour
Tour Highlights & Stops
Tracing the footsteps of baseball royalty across upper Manhattan and the South Bronx, this tour journeys through more than a century of New York Yankees lore, triumphs, and architectural evolution.
The route begins on Washington Heights’ high ground at the site of Hilltop Park, where the franchise first took root in 1903 as the New York Highlanders. We then descend into Coogan’s Bluff via the historic John T. Brush Stairway—the last standing relic of the legendary Polo Grounds—here we will explore how the pinstripe dynasty truly ignited alongside Babe Ruth.
From the Stairway, we then head to the former Polo Grounds site itself in Coogan's Hollow, now a public housing complex. On the exterior wall of Tower #4, a historic marker notes the original home plate where Babe Ruth and the Yankees played as tenants of the Giants before opening their own stadium in the Bronx in 1923.
From there, we cross the Harlem River into the Bronx to stand on the historic footprint of Old Yankee Stadium at Heritage Field, the cathedral that hosted 26 World Championships. The walking journey culminates outside the gates of modern Yankee Stadium, capturing the scale of the contemporary franchise
Before wrapping up, we will cross River Avenue for a cold, well-earned beer inside the memorabilia-packed walls of Stan’s Sports Bar.
